Leo Eclipse

It’s that time of year again and the Eclipses are evoking a surge of activity, pressured action, urgency and fatedness -or feelings of fatedness. It’s funny how tabloids (looking at you newsweek) and click-bait media often claim that astrologers are "freaking out about the Eclipse” (we aren’t) but most everyone sure is freaking out During the Eclipse. That’s the nature of it all. Even if things are going well there can be a sense of acceleration and pressure that is somewhat uncomfortable.

Crisis and Critical Decisions

I often say that Eclipses are a time of crisis, a term which is rooted in the Greek word Krisis meaning “turning point in disease” literally "judgment, result of a trial, selection," from krinein "to separate, decide, judge,” and certainly at this time of turning points, tough decisions, final judgements or conclusions to ongoing issues or the breakthrough of brand new conditions good, bad, attractive or unattractive.

In these times we may feel impelled to make a decision or feel forced to deal with a decision or turning point that has been thrust upon us.

Quickly Closing Gates

The German term for crisisis: Torschlusspanik is literally “Shut-door-panic” or fear of being on teh wrong side of a closing gate. This may be a perfect term for our feelings right now and the sense that we are wasting our lives, "betting on the wrong horses" or, at least, uncertainty around important decisions whose windows of opportunity are quickly closing. Some of us may be happily on the other side of the gate and ready to move on to new pastures and for them they may be a compassionate ear for those others.

Decisions made now tend to have a finality about them and there is no going “back through the gate” once it’s over. Sometimes it’s not an event but an internal, emotional decision or epiphany in which a new life direction emerges and we go on our way as new people with a new awareness about life, our true needs and desires.

Leo-Aquarius Axis

As mentioned in the my previous article on the Eclipses, the Leo-Aquarius polarity is about the sole individual vs the collective. Nowhere is this more evident in the cultural climate of the United states. The Eclipse is closely conjunct the Ascendant and Mars of President Trump and is also opposite the Moon of the United States nativity, it also will occur over the US for the first time in decades.

Add to the fact that Neptune, the planet of illusion and disillusionment, is strongly aligned to the US Ascendant and you have quite an exciting time in the current epoch of US politics. It's a weird time of collective disillusionment sometimes in quite literal ways. Wikileaks is a perfect example: They not only reveal corruption and orwellian criminality which leads to breaking of illusions Dis-illusionment, but they do so through Leaks, a key-word for Neptune. Additional key-words include: Dissolving, erosion, dissipation, distortion, confusion, mutation, and, of course, lies and deception.

but before you go all tiki torches and pitchforks, remember that this Neptune transit ensures that few people may l really know what’s going in this hyper-normalized political landscape of state propaganda, fake news, twitter chat-bots, deep state civil war, ect, ect

Spoiler alert: It’s all game of thrones.

But the cable TV reception is on the fritz so don’t make too many assumptions about the actual plot until clarity returns.

Regulus - The Heart Of The Lion

This Eclipse is Exactly on the star Regulus, "the heart of the Lion". Thiscarries with it the most elevated and problematic qualities of Leo and is said to bring eminence, authority andelevate one to great heights from but sometimes great falls as well. Regulus is royal, kingly and associated with achievement to great heights but also falls from those heights once attained.

At worst, this star is associated with egotism and runaway pride. Leo can be generous and giving but also vindictive and vengeful when it’s pride is offended or it’s position / title / trust or generosity is betrayed.

If you have planets or angles around 28 Leo then you should be mindful to go easy on others if you find yourself feeling betrayed as our dramatic actions can be our undoing. Having said that bit about the two signs, the signs themselves are much less important than the way the Eclipse hits your natal chart. You will feel the Eclipse most profoundly if it aspects the following:

Natal or Progressed Angles (Ascendant, Mid-heaven or opposite those points)

Natal of Progressed Sun or Moon

planetary ruler of the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th

any personal planet

Hard aspects trump soft ones. They aren’t necessarily negative or unfortunate but they are usually a lot of less comfortable even if they are good. And sometimes they are indeed bad or at least unattractive at the time.
